Recommend me a soundtrack

Posted by Xeptic Sep. 13, 2009 @ 7:41 AM EDT

For some reason I like listening to soundtracks when I'm working on Flash stuff. I don't know why, maybe because they're not distracting and they set the right atmosphere. Anyway, all I know is they're a huge help. Due to a crash I lost the majority of my music collection, so I'm on the lookout for new music to refill my library. I still have pretty much every Thomas Newman soundtrack that has ever been released, but there have to be more great scores and composers out there. Any suggestions NG?

Last three I bought were Godzilla 2000's soundtrack by Takayuki Hattori, Drag Me to Hell by Christopher Young and the awesome 1960's Casino Royale soundtrack by Burt Bacharach (not the latest one). I'd recommend all three, Conan the Barbarian is pretty win too.

How about video game soundtracks ?
Super Mario World is classic. And my personal favourite is Kirby Super Star Ultra right now.

I used to have some Final Fantasy soundtracks. I find game soundtracks hard to come by

Why don't you listen to jazz or ska-jazz if you don't want to be 2 distracted?

I usually do when I'm juggling otherwise I'm singing along and that doesn't improve my hand-eye coordination. unless I'm gaming then it does for some weird reason.

I do listen to jazz every now and then. I like the atmospheric quality most soundtracks have

Daft Punk is fun to listen to while animating. It's a techno group, and their beats are fun to rythmatically animate with. I also find listening to some classical stuff, like In the Hall of the Mountain King and Flight of the Bumble Bee fun to listen to. I also recommend some face-paced metal junk like Metalica and Dragon Force, it helps you stay awake and energetic. Recently, I've been listening to Owl City (a new alternative rock band with some twists to the genre) and Globus (a rpg-esque band). I think they are worth looking up! Good luck with everything! :D

One that I'm a fan of is Mark Mancina's soundtrack to Blood+. It's quite epic at times and has a smidgen of tasteful soundtrack opera. I like it a lot, here's a taste test: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWVlB5 LrPS8
