I could use a couple of people who are willing to test my new game some time this week. It's a tycoon game, nothing world changing or anything, there's a bit more info in some of my last newsposts.

There isn't much in it for the testers I'm afraid, other than getting your name mentioned in the NG description and perhaps in the credits section of the game, should I decide to add that. Anyway, it shouldn't take up too much of your time either, just play it for maybe 30 minutes or so, or until you get bored of it (which will most likely be sooner) and write down a couple of things you noticed. This can be bugs, suggestions, complaints etc. I'm happy with pretty much any sort of feedback.

Communication can go through pm's, IM, e-mail, I'm not very picky.

Edit: I don't need any more testers, sorry. Thanks to everyone who helped me out (or wanted to help out)!

It's been a while since the last update, I've been crazy busy with all sorts of stuff lately... I still managed to squeeze some hours into game development though. The major updates in this new video are:
- Upgradeable objects: There will be more objects than cd-racks and registers in the final version, all will have different functions and every one of them will be upgradeable. Implementing this bit took a lot of time as I had to rewrite huge chunks of code, but I think it will pay off in the end.
- Multiple properties: Right now there are four different shops you can rent (there might be more in the final version, I'm not sure yet). Shops will vary in size and customer preferences. They also differ in daily rental costs.
- Multiple music genres. In the previous version you could only buy one type of cd's, now there are 5 genres you can choose from. The idea behind this is that you have to figure out the best product mix to get as many sales as you can. Every customer has a unique taste in music, depending on the area you're in, and dynamic events such as concerts being held in town. For the next update I'm going to get the 'news' section up and running, this is where the player will be informed of these kind of events.
- Some UI/graphics upgrades.

As always, nothing what you see in the video is finalized, I still have a lot of work to do, so don't mind the looks too much.

I've gotten quite some work done on the game since the last update, unfortunately most of that is boring behind the scenes type stuff. There are some notable in this new video though, see if you can spot them.

I'm slowly getting to the point where I have all major gameplay components finished. After that it's all a matter of adding more content, working on the graphics and audio, and gameplay tweaking. Lots and lots of gameplay tweaking. Should be fun.

PS: If anyone wants to beta-test this when it's ready drop me a pm, or reply to this newspost and I'll put your name down on my super prestigious beta-testers list. I can always use more testers!

I got myself some video capturing software so I made a recording of me testing out my new game's engine. It still has ways to go so it doesn't look like much yet, but it should give you some vague idea of what the game's gonna be about.

I've been discussing this question with a couple of people lately and the answer usually boils down to something like: Rewarding players for their actions. As in, the more you play, the bigger the reward (more XP, more gold, unlocking content, etc.), so there's something to 'work' towards.

What makes games fun to play for you?
